Promoting British Values

Promoting British Values

At Westende Junior School we are committed to ensuring that each child understands the concept of being British. We promote values and attitudes that are essential to future citizens of our country. This is done in a variety of ways and enables pupils to thoroughly understand the concepts of:

  • Democracy
  • Rule of Law
  • Individual Liberty
  • Mutual Respect
  • Tolerance of different faiths and beliefs

Prevent Duty

As part of Westende Junior School’s commitment to safeguarding and child protection we fully support the government's Prevent Duty. It is delivered through lessons as part of our commitment to the Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural education of your child and in Promoting British Values.

Prevent is a government strategy designed to stop people becoming terrorists or supporting terrorism. It:

  • responds to the ideological challenge we face from terrorism and aspects of extremism, and the threat we face from those who promote these views
  • provides practical help to prevent people from being drawn into terrorism and ensure they are given appropriate advice and support
  • works with a wide range of sectors (including education, criminal justice, faith, charities, online and health)
